Recipe for Brigid M’s Kitchen:
Sandwiches

09–05–2024
Fort Collins, Colorado

Ingredients

  • An open kitchen in another huge house. The background color is calming solid sky blue. The kitchen island has storage from both sides.
  • The first household in Fort Collins you cook in that comes with no pets. The dog bowls are for a visiting dog, Brigid explained.
  • Brigid has three little boys, as shown from the photos on the fridge. The kids’ arts are proudly on display.
  • Colorful plastic utensils in the drawers, and the colorful plates in the cabinet. More traces of kids.
  • This kitchen is prepared for quick and easy meals. The stains on the control panel of this microwave and oven combo show that the microwave is more frequently used. There are two drawers of canned food.
  •  The fridge is stocked with different bread, already sliced veggies, bacon and ham, pickles and sauces. Sandwiches must be regularly produced.
  • A compost jar by the sink.
  • The sink reminds you of a bathtub. If this family ever gets a medium size dog they can bath the dog here for sure.

Steps

  • Brigid let you in. Before she left, she showed you the other fridge in another room, and more pantries. The fridge is rather empty, with more eggs and sauces.
  • It doesn’t make sense to you to not make a couple of sandwiches here. So you pulled out bread, onions, eggs, bacon, ham, pickles, veggies, and cheese.
  • A staff from the mosquito spraying squad came by, and told you to close the windows. So you did.
  • In your experience it is difficult to make only one sandwich. The ingredients are easily too abundant. So it’s delightful to make a couple of them at once. You made four, two open sandwiches with naan, two with wholewheat bread. You wrapped them up with wax paper, and put them in the fridge. This is what makes sense to you in this kitchen. You imagine Brigid taking one of them out, reheating it with microwave, and serving it, all under 5 minutes.
  • You almost took their apron! You put one on when frying eggs. You were waiting for your ride sitting outside Brigid’s house, when you realized you were still wearing it. My my! You took it off, went back inside, and put it down by the shoe rack.
  • Brigid texted you later: a photo of her two kids eating the sandwiches you made, cut into small pieces.
